Painting in Italy course - September 2010
Non-painting partners are welcome during this week. We can arrange cooking tuition (3 days including lunch) and/or horseriding. Horseriding can be arranged as a one hour lesson followed by a one hour guided excursion or a two hour guided excursion. There are bikes available from the hotel but guests should be aware that this is a very hilly region. The hotel is particularly suitable for non-painting guests as it has such a lovely pool.
This painting week is centred on Florence and the landscape of Tuscany. There will be opportunities to see some of the artefacts which have made this city the centre of the Italian Renaissance. The main thrust of this holiday is to give you the chance to record at first hand, with painting and drawing, your response to your week’s experience. As Drawing Master at Eton, John Booth came to Florence every year to paint and draw with his senior artist pupils in the city and the surrounding hills. His experience of painting on the spot will prove invaluable to the novice at this activity as well as to the more experienced.
Excursions Excursions will be to Fiesole and Florence. There will be two excursions to Florence, one for sight seeing and one for painting. We will go to the Piazza Michaelangelo which overlooks the city. This is an ideal spot to draw and paint from. Non-participating partners can go into Florence. We will visit the church of San Lorenzo (the parish church of the Medici) and the Medici chapels. We visit the famous market and then walk through the Piazza del Duomo to the Piazza della Signoria. Fiesole is of Etruscan origin. For centuries Fiesole has played the role of Florence’s aristocratic suburb.
During the week there will be a guided tour of the wine making facilities of La Fattoria Lavacchio.
